MMGM and The Secret of the Fortune Wookie

Welcome to Marvelous Middle-Grade Monday at A Monster Ate My Book Report!
This is a great meme started by Ms. Shannon Messenger, author of her own Middle-Grade Book, Keeper of the Lost Cities.  There are lots of fantastic bloggers out their who are excited to tell you all about Middle-Grade Books, so make sure you check out Ms. Shannon's Blog to get all the links.
Thanks,
Marsh and Emiline

This is one of those weeks where brothers and sisters can agree on something, or as my mom says, "The End of Days".
We both love the Origami Yoda series by Tom Angleberger and to celebrate this RARE occassion we are also having a Giveaway!  We have one hardcover copy of The Secret of the Fortune Wookie that is AUTOGRAPHED by Tom Angleberger. This is a great series for EVERYONE.  All you have to do is leave a comment and make sure you include your email address.

Marsh's Response to The Secret of the Fortune Wookie:
After Dwight leaves McQuarrie Middle to go to Tippet Academy, Tommy has to create another case file without him . . . How will that work?!!? Then Tommy's half-girlfriend, Sara, brings in a piece of origami that Dwight threw out of his window.  One by one, it starts to solve everyone's problems.  But Harvey, once again, thinks this is all a big hoax.

This was a great third book in the Origami Yoda series.  I especially liked it because my two favorite characters from the Star Wars saga were introduced: Han Solo and Chewbacca.  Like the other books, it has a ton of humor.  I give this one FIVE MONSTERS.

Emiline's Response to The Secret of the Fortune Wookie:
Tragedy has struck Tommy's middle school . . .  Dwight is at a new school and Origami Yoda  went with him.  Luckily, a Fortune Wookiee has come to help.  But is The Force within him?
My favorite character in this book was Han Foldo.  He said things that Han Solo would say.  Tom Angleberger really knows his Star Wars characters, plus his last name is really fun to say.  I give this one FIVE MONSTERS.

This is Tom Angleberger's site where you can find out all about him (he's really the best!) and his books:

Emiline's Marvelous-Middle Grade Book Pick is
The Fairytale Detectives: Sisters Grimm #1
by Michael Buckley

Sabrina and Daphne's lives are everything BUT normal. Ever since their thought-to-be-dead grandmother picked them up from the orphanage and taught them about their ancestors--the Brothers Grimm--things have been a little strange.  It turns out that all the fairy tales are real!  But the fairy tale characters (the Everafters) are trapped in Ferryport Landing due to the Human/Everafter war.  They are stuck there until the last Grimm dies.  The girls' ancestors have carried on the family business--serving as fairy tale detectives--and now it is their turn.
These books are epic.  They changed my idea of fairy tales forever.  But now I'm so sleep deprived from staying up all night reading them that I'm having a hard time putting my love for them into words. But I can say that I am in Love with this series.  It's absolutely brilliant.
     I give it FIVE MONSTERS.

Marsh's MMGM Pick is Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel
by Jeff Kinney

The Valentine's Day Dance is coming up and Greg is desperately trying to find a date.  Even the biggest losers in school have made connections to meet up with girls on the big night.  Good thing Greg's best friend, Rowley, is the social chairperson on student council and there just happens to be a girl who doesn't have a date either that is on the student council.  Will Greg get a date in time for the dance?

This was a very humorous book like all the others in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.  I enjoy how all of the main characters stay the same but Jeff Kinney always incorporates new characters into every new book.  What I loved most about this book was the ending, but I can't tell you what happens so you will just have to read the book to find out.

Marvelous Middle-Grade Monday!

Welcome to our MMGM!
This week it's all about overcoming girl drama with one of my favorite series Luv Ya Bunches by the awesome Lauren Myracle. Violet in Bloom is my MMGM this week.

I really love these flabbergasting books by Lauren Myracle.  Her Luv Ya Bunches Series is fun to read and also helpful.  I prefer girl- drama books, because if I'm ever in a situation like the Flower Friends I will know what to do.  Situations like dealing with a bully, or trying to be nice to a girl that's being mean.  That's why Violet in Bloom is my MMGM.

Read my review of Luv Ya Bunches here:

And my Review of Violet in Bloom here:

And I'm already finished with the newest book with the Flower Friends, Oopsy Daisy.  It was so good, and I have already started the report.

Lauren Myracle has a great site to find out more about the Flower Friends!  You can even take personality tests and have the Flower Friends try on clothes.

There are lots of other blogs that participate in MMGM.  This is a great way to find some new Middle-Grade books.  Please visit our friend Ms. Shannon's Blog to find out more.

Book Report: Violet in Bloom

Violet in Bloom
Luv Ya Bunches #2
By: Lauren Myracle
Book Report by Emiline

Violet in Bloom was breathtaking.  I have to say it was one of my favorites.  I even cried when I was reading the book.  Now, to actually learn about Violet in Bloom let's get to my summary!

The Flower Friends are having a lot of drama.  Katie Rose is being mean to Natalia (not a Flower Friend), because Natalia is being mean to her and trying to pull Katie Rose away from Yasman (a Flower Friend).  Violet is worried about visiting her mom, who is in a mental hospital.  While Camilla accidentally stepped on her crushes' hamster and killed him! Plus, she doesn't know if he forgives her.

Will Natalia stop being mean to Katie Rose?  Will Violet have the nerve to visit her mom?  Will Milla's crush forgive her?  Find out all about it in Violet in Bloom by Lauren Myracle.

I recommend Violet in Bloom to people who have girl drama.  What I liked best about Lauren Myracle is that she wants to encourage kids to stop bullying each other!  Something else I liked was Camilla's crush, aka Max, has an "I Read Banned Books" shirt.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever

Marsh's Book Report on Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney

Greg and Rowley are hanging posters for the Winter Holiday Bizarre, and it starts to rain.  The ink from the poster bleeds all over the school walls.  A police man walks around the corner and he thinks that Greg and Rowley are vandalizing the school.  Luckily, the police man does not get a good look at them, and he does not notice who they are.  Greg and Rowley are in huge trouble!  The principal is calling people into his office asking kids if the did it.  Fortunately, the principal does not get to Greg and Rowley before the school day is over.  The next day everyone is snowed in after there was a huge blizzard.

Will the police and the principal catch Greg and Rowley?  Can they explain what really happened?

Dairy of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever was a great book.  Like all of Jeff Kinney's books, this one was hilarious.  My favorite character is Greg.  He is so lazy and careless.  My favorite part was when Greg tried to get rid of the snow with a lawn mower!  It was so funny.

I give Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever
5 MONSTERS!

Emiline's Report on Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever

Have you ever gotten in trouble?  Well, if you haven't then you are nothing like Greg.  Greg is a trouble maker, and in Cabin Fever he gets in his biggest trouble ever.  Greg wants to make money by selling newspapers, but nobody will buy them.  So, Greg decides he'll put up flabbergasting posters on the back of the school with his best friend, Rowley.  It rained that night and the ink from the poster made a big green splash that looked like paint.  The principal saw the ooze and he called all the trouble makers, but not Greg!  Greg thinks he will get caught, but then he got snowed in and all the power was out in the town.  Will somebody eventually find out it was Greg?  Find out in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney.

I thought is was hilarious that Greg's wishes came true.  He didn't want anybody to know what happened so it snowed.  Jeff Kinney's world of Dairy of a Wimpy Kid is full of exquisite things, and surprisingly it's realistic fiction!

I give Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney
4 Monsters.

We would like to say thanks to Little Shop of Stories in Decatur, Georgia for having the best signing EVER!  Would would also like to thank Jeff Kinney for letting us have a snow day.  We loved feeling the cold snow against our mittens, and it was so much fun having snowball fights.

Our Book Reports on Darth Paper Strikes Back by Tom Angleberger

Emiline's Report on Darth Paper Strikes Back

We are back with Origami Yoda in his new book, Darth Paper Strikes Back.  In this book Harvey makes an origami Darth Vader so Darth Paper and Origami Yoda can fight with paper lightsabers and so Darth Paper can prove that Origami Yoda couldn't really tell the future.

One day, a really popular girl comes to Origami Yoda for advice, but he he said something that kind of scared her.  Well, Harvey found a way so she would complain to the principal about it just because he wanted Dwight (Origami Yoda's creator) to get kicked out of school.  As you can see, Harvey doesn't really like Dwight.  What will Dwight's future be?  Find out in Darth Paper Strikes Back.

I was really excited that Darth Vader was in this one, and I'm not just saying that because I had a crush on Darth Vader when I was a little kid. So far this is my favorite book in this series because of the action and Darth Vader.  Maybe I still have a little crush.

I give this book 5 MONSTERS!!

Marsh's Report on Darth Paper Strikes Back:

Origami Yoda is back, but now he has an enemy.  Harvey, Dwight's enemy has made an origami Darth Vader.  Origami Yoda gave one girl bad advice and she took it as a threat, so she told the principal and Dwight, the owner and maker of Origami Yoda, got expelled.  So now Tommy is making a new case file to present to the school board in hopes of getting his friend back, but Harvey writes a counter argument.  Can Tommy get Dwight back in school?

I really like this book.  I was sad that Dwight wasn't in this book as much as he was in The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.  The book was surprising at  times (I can't tell you why because this is a non-spoiler review).   I really can't wait until the third book comes out.  I hope it's Luke Skywalker!

Overall I give this book 5 out of 5 monsters!

Emiline Reports on Lauren Myracle's Luv ya Bunches

Emiline Reports on Lauren Myracle's Luv ya Bunches
A Flower Power Book #1

(Check it out!  That's Lauren Myracle in our video!)

Luv ya Bunches is a terrific book.  I especially love the characters.  There's Katie-Rose, a total goofball.  Then there's Milla, a popular kid who has an obsession with a toy turtle named Tally.  Then there's Yasaman, she is great with the computer.  She even created a website called BlahBlahSomethingSomething.com which turned out to be LuvyaBunches.  There is also Violet, the new kid.

Alright, I know you want to get to the review, but first I have to tell you about Modessa.  Modessa is a mean, mud eating, popular kid with a minion named Quinn.  Modessa is trying to make Katie-Rose not be Milla's friend.  So she makes it look like Katie-Rose Stole Tally, the turtle.  Will Milla and Katie-Rose still be friends?  Find out in Luv ya Bunches.

I love this book.  And I love the author.  Did you know that Lauren Myracle is the first author in the world to write a book entirely out of text messages?  I can see all of the people who are reading this eyes go wide!  I think you should read Luv ya Bunches because it is super funny and creative--some of the book is written like a chat box on BlahBlahSomethingSomething.com.  The characters are super funny.  I'd like to hang out with Milla and Katie-Rose, and I think you probably would too.

Hye guys! You can find this book at your local or school library, or you can buy it at your local Indie Bookseller, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon.

You can find out more about the author and all her books here http://www.laurenmyracle.com/yummy-books/luv-ya-bunches  and the Flower Power Books have a really fun website too-- http://www.abramsbooks.com/flowerpowerbooks/

The Strange Case of Origami YODA

The Strange Case of Origami YODA
Origami Yoda #1

Book Report by Emiline
The force is in one special school with ... a paper Yoda!?!   Anyway, origami Yoda was funny, crazy, and great!! So were the characters: Tommy was nice. Dwight was funny and weird. Harvey was, well, just mean. People heard about origami Yoda because of, you know, gossip.  Well, soon enough every one was asking origami Yoda about random stuff and he was always right.  Everyone wrote down adventures with origami Yoda in Tommy’s notebook. Surprisingly it was a setup for the boys, Tommy and Dwight, to get girls—because they’re nerds.  But then how did Origami Yoda tell the future ???   Is it just Dwight’s hand or is it really the force?  Find out in Origami Yoda.

My Book Report for The Strange Case of Origami YODA
By Marsh

Tommy is gathering information to see if Origami Yoda can tell the future or not.  Origami Yoda is a finger puppet that is used by a middle-schooler named Dwight.  The students of McQuarrie Middle School’s seventh grade believe that Origami Yoda might be able to tell the future.

Tommy needs to prove that Origami Yoda can tell the future so, if he asks a girl out to the dance, he won’t make a fool of himself.
I think Origami Yoda is a great book for all people who like Star Wars.  It is jam-packed with humor.  I liked how it was so descriptive.  If you like this book, don’t miss book two, Darth Paper Strikes Back. It is coming soon.  I think it will be great, like the first book. I give Origami YODA five monsters.
