Brother and sister, Marshall and Emiline, discuss and review their favorite books. It is also just a little bit scary because, somewhere out there, a monster is eating people's book reports!

It's 1952 and Janie must leave her life behind and go to London where she attends St Bedens School. At that school, a boy by the name of Benjamin Burrows stands up during a bomb drill and refuses to go under the tables. This intrigues Janie and she follows him to his father's shop. His father is an apothecary--but not exactly a normal apothecary. These three people will go on a BIG adventure.
My Response to The Apothecary:
This is most likely a middle grade book. It has about 2 notches out of 5 for intensity because of the war scenes. They are very easy to visualize. The writing is also very emotional. Because of this, I would say the age range is 10 and up.
I give this book 5 monsters. It was sad but the writing deserves the full rating. It was wonderfully described.

Joss’s slayer
family has found out that he took on a secret mission to kill Vlad Tod.Unless he completes a quest to find and kill
a vampire serial killer, they will have to kill him.He finds out it’s a ring of brothers who are
the killers.Can he defeat the
vampires? Can he stay in the society?
My Response:
This was an
intense book, especially during the action and emotional scenes.I really like how all the emotional parts are
deep and you can relate to them.I
really liked how the main character, Joss, had many good personality
traits.He is smart, courageous, smart
and brave.I also enjoyed the plot of
the book and how it tied into Vlad Tod.
I think Heather
Brewer’s writing is very original and her books are not like any of the other
vampire and slayer books on the market. Her writing is very witty and well planned.I loved this book and I give it 5 Monsters.

Eighth Grade Bites (Chronicles of Vladimir Tod #1)
by Heather Brewer
Review
by Emiline
Vlad isn’t a normal boy; he’s a
vampire. His parents are dead.He lives in a small town where people are
being abducted mysteriously.Vlad’s
teacher is missing and his substitute is very intriguing.Vlad stays cautious when he’s around the sub,
Mr. Otis, because he is bound to discover his secret.
One day, Vlad finds a letter from
his father that could answer the questions about his parent’s deaths. To find out what happens next, read Heather
Brewer’s Eighth Grade Bites.
I liked that Vlad wasn’t a super
popular kid and that he faces challenges that real kids face.I also liked that Brewer seems to pour all of
her emotion into the book.I also really
liked that even though Vlad is a vampire, he is not vicious or cruel.
I read every chance I get! This is a picture of me reading in the carpool line.
I was flabbergasted when I found out there was a perfect book for me. It is A Tale Dark and Grimm by Adam Gidwitz. A Tale Dark and Grimm is spectacular AND scary. If you are ready for a spine-tingling adventure you need to read this book.
This book starts with the story of Faithful Johannes. Faithful Johannes has been serving king after king. Soon, the throne was passed down to Hansel and Gretel's dad. (What? You didn't know Hansel and Gretel were royalty? Gasp!) Well, in a secret room there is a picture of the Gold Princess. The King thought she was beautiful, but what he didn't know was that she was sad because all of her husbands had died. The king didn't care about her past because he loved her so much. So, he got some gold and bribed her until she said she would marry him. When the King and the Gold Princess were talking, faithful Johannes was listening to three ravens; they were talking about the Gold Princess' fate and what to do. The ravens said that the Gold Princess would die on her wedding night unless somebody sucked three drops of blood from her lip. All the things they said were true. Well, when the new Queen almost died Johannes knew what to do. He sucked three droplets of blood from her lip. The King did not like that so he killed faithful Johannes. Johannes did not die though, he just turned to stone. The King and Queen almost forgot about how good Johannes had been to them.
One day the King was talking to Johannes' statue. He said there was a way to bring him back to life, but he would have to cut off the heads of his children, Hansel and Gretel. The King didn't want to, but he did. Somehow Hansel and Gretel's heads were put back on and they ran into the forest and away from their parents. In the forest Hansel and Gretel find a candy house. What will happen to them next? What is their next adventure? Find out in A Tale Dark and Grimm by Adam Gidwitz.
I think A Tale Dark and Grimm is one of the best books I've read. I liked that it was based on a Grimm fairytale and that it was creepy! My favorite character in this book was Gretel because she was always willing to do dangerous things. When I got this book I knew I was going to love it because it looked scary and fun. I also love the cover art. If you don't like scary things this isn't the best book for you, but if you do like scary things then you will love this book! (And if Adam Gidwitz is reading this-- good job on writing good literature and a great grim fairytale!)
I give this book 5 monsters plus 8 bonus monsters!!
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I found this book at The Decatur Book Festival. My friends at Little Shop of Stories recommended it. You can find A Tale Dark and Grimm at your school or local library, or at your favorite bookstore.
